Our Approach

What physiotherapy looks like here

Physiotherapy at Fittopia Health Care is assessment-first. Before anything is treated, your physiotherapist takes the time to understand your history, watch how you move, and find what is actually driving the problem.

From there, care is built around you rather than a set formula: manual therapy, dry needling, progressive exercise, Clinical Pilates on reformer-style equipment, and electrical modalities, chosen to fit your goals.

Every session runs one-on-one in a private treatment room at Fittopia Wellness Studio on No. 3 Road, and every visit ends with a clear next step.

Assessment first

Treatment starts once we understand the problem. Your first visit is a thorough look at your history and movement, not a quick once-over.

One-on-one, every visit

Every appointment is spent one-on-one with your physiotherapist in a private treatment room, from assessment through treatment.

Registered care

Care is provided by a Registered Physiotherapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC, with extended health receipts provided.

Care in four languages

Sessions are available in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Kaiping, so you can explain what you feel in the language you think in.

Common Reasons People Book

What physiotherapy helps with

People come in for many different reasons. These are some of the most common, and if yours is not on the list, call the clinic and we will point you in the right direction.

Sports and training injuries

Strains, sprains, and flare-ups from the gym, the field, or the studio.

Neck and back pain

Stiff, sore, or nagging necks and backs, whether recent or long-standing.

Persistent pain

Pain that has outlasted normal healing time and needs a different approach.

Concussion and vestibular rehab

Lingering concussion symptoms, dizziness, and balance concerns.

Post-injury return to activity

A guided path back to sport, training, and daily life after an injury.

Posture and mobility

Restricted movement and desk-bound stiffness that limit how you move.

Tendinopathy

Gradual-onset tendon pain that flares with load and lingers between sessions.

Pre- and post-surgical rehab

Preparing for surgery, then rebuilding strength and range afterwards.

How We Treat

Approaches and techniques

Your physiotherapist draws on a full toolkit and chooses what fits your assessment, your goals, and how your body responds.

Manual therapy

Hands-on techniques for joints and soft tissue, used to ease pain and restore comfortable movement.

Dry needling

Fine needles placed into tight, irritable muscle to release tension and settle stubborn pain patterns.

Exercise prescription

A progressive exercise program built from your assessment, with a home plan you can actually follow.

Clinical Pilates

One-on-one sessions on reformer-style equipment, led by your physiotherapist after an initial assessment. Booked by phone.

Electrical modalities

Electrical stimulation used alongside hands-on care when it suits your treatment plan.

Education and load management

A clear explanation of what is going on, plus how to pace training, work, and daily activity while you recover.

What to Expect

Your first visit

No mystery, no rush. Here is how your initial physiotherapy assessment unfolds.

01

Book your initial assessment

Most people start with the 60-minute initial assessment, booked online through Jane. A 45-minute option is also available.

02

History and movement review

Your physiotherapist listens first: your history, your goals, and what makes things better or worse. Then he watches how you actually move.

03

Hands-on treatment, same day

Assessment flows straight into treatment, whether that is manual therapy, dry needling, or guided exercise, so you are not waiting to get started.

04

A plan and a home program

You leave knowing what is going on, what comes next, and exactly what to work on between visits.

Rehab That Moves

Clinical Pilates with your physiotherapist

Clinical Pilates is one-on-one rehabilitation on reformer-style equipment, led by the physiotherapist and built around your treatment plan. It follows an initial physiotherapy assessment, so every movement is chosen for your body and your goals.

It suits people who want their rehab to feel like training: controlled, progressive movement that rebuilds strength and confidence rather than passive treatment alone.

Booked by phone, not online. Clinical Pilates sessions are arranged by calling the clinic at (604) 304-7779. New to the clinic? Book your initial physiotherapy assessment online first.

Physiotherapy FAQs

Do I need a doctor's referral to see a physiotherapist?

No referral is needed to book an appointment with us. Some extended health plans do ask for a doctor's referral before they reimburse physiotherapy, so it is worth checking your plan's requirements before your first visit.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Comfortable clothing you can move in. It helps if your physiotherapist can see and reach the area being treated, so consider shorts for hip, knee, or ankle concerns and a tank top or loose t-shirt for neck, shoulder, or back concerns.

Do you provide receipts or direct billing?

Yes. Extended health receipts are provided for every visit, and direct billing is available for many extended-health insurers. Coverage varies from plan to plan, so we recommend confirming your physiotherapy benefits with your insurer.

What is the difference between clinic physiotherapy and in-gym physiotherapy?

This page is for the clinic at Fittopia Wellness Studio, 4940 No. 3 Rd Unit 122, where sessions run one-on-one in a private treatment room with access to Clinical Pilates equipment. Fittopia also has a separate in-gym physiotherapy practice at Fittopia Fitness Center, 7951 Alderbridge Way, which lives on the main fittopia.ca site and books separately.

Can I book Clinical Pilates online?

No. Clinical Pilates sessions are booked by phone at (604) 304-7779. They are one-on-one with the physiotherapist and follow an initial physiotherapy assessment, so if you are new to the clinic, start by booking an assessment online.

Do you treat concussion and dizziness?

Yes. Johnny Guan treats concussion and vestibular symptoms. Care starts with an assessment so treatment can be matched to what you are actually experiencing.

What happens at my first visit?

Your first appointment is an initial assessment: your physiotherapist takes a detailed history, reviews how you move, and begins hands-on treatment the same day. You leave with a plan and a home program. Most people book the 60-minute initial assessment; a 45-minute option is also available.

What languages can I have my session in?

Johnny works in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Kaiping.

Prefer physio on the gym floor?

Fittopia also offers a separate in-gym physiotherapy practice at Fittopia Fitness Center, 7951 Alderbridge Way, built for treatment right where you train. It lives on the main Fittopia site and books separately.
